The Full-Time Custodian position is responsible for meeting the cleaning, maintenance set-up, and tear-down needs of events in the RiverCentre, Roy Wilkins Auditorium, and Xcel Energy Center. This position is also responsible for completing all daily cleaning tasks (office cleaning, tunnel, and lobby). Custodians will be able to work in a fast-paced environment. This is a union position that falls under the Local 70 Bargaining Agreement.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions Sweep and mop floors. Clean carpets with vacuums and carpet-cleaning equipment. Wash windows and doors, empty trash and operate compactors. Separate all waste (compost/comingle/mixed paper/construction waste/trash) and empty it into the proper receptacle. Clean restrooms, and campus offices. Assist in outside maintenance. (shovel snow, pull weeds, pressure wash sidewalks, etc.) Assist in unloading and moving freight. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and other equipment according to printed diagrams and verbal instructions. Set up and tear down hockey glass, retractable risers, and dasher boards. Respond to cleaning and maintenance calls during events. Assist in detailed cleaning projects, such as high dusting, carpet cleaning, and floor waxing. Work in a team-oriented environment with other full-time, part-time, and temporary staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver's License preferred. Knowledge & Experience General facility cleaning needs and procedures. General building maintenance. Tools, materials, and supplies commonly used in building cleaning and maintenance. Operate cleaning equipment such as Vacuums, Riding Scrubbers, and Sweepers. Operate mechanical maintenance equipment. Operate (or are willing to learn to operate) Forklifts, Scissor lifts, and Bobcats. General computer knowledge and ability to communicate via e-mail and successfully complete online training modules. Personal Attributes Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to tactfully interact with clients, the public, and fellow employees. Ability to maintain a positive attitude in demanding and stressful situations. Ability to adapt to changing demands under specific time constraints. Perform detail-oriented work. Work Conditions This position works long, irregular hours consisting of overnights, weekends and holidays based on events or projects throughout campus. Days off each week will vary based on business needs. Lifting requirements - must be able to lift 50 pounds. Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc. for the entirety of the shift.
