Job Description
The Neurosurgery Moonlighter is primarily responsible for providing evening and weekend coverage for the Neurosurgery and Spine Service line at Regions Hospital. Regions Hospital is a level one trauma center and requires 24/7 coverage for Neurosurgery. This position will be responsible for maintaining coverage for existing patients and newly transported or admitted patients needing medical attention from Neurosurgery and Spine. This position will work in conjunction with the first call attending to coordinate the care of patients within the hospital. They will be responsible for first call on nights and weekends. Additionally, when needed this position will assist in the operating room and on the nursing units, the Moonlighter will assist the surgeon with positioning the patient and room set up, opening and closing the incision in the cranium, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. The Moonlighter will be responsible for integrating the use of advanced technology into the intra-operative procedures as directed by the neurosurgeons. When necessary this position will be responsible for consults from the emergency department, ICU, and other floors within the hospital. They must be always available by pager when they are first call. They will need access to the electronic medical record from home as well as have access to imaging and email.
On the inpatient nursing unit and the outpatient clinics, the Moonlighter will coordinate the patient's care and assist the surgeon/provider in directing the post operative nursing care for these patients. The major functions in this environment consist of patient assessment, writing medication and treatment orders and performing, or directing specific tasks. Among these tasks are pulling tubes/lines and dictating discharge summaries.

Required Qualifications: Medical Degree (M.D. or D.O.) No experience required. Current active MN license. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer 1-2 years' experience in the neurosurgery or spine surgery and inpatient environment which includes First Assisting and seeing patients independently. About Us
