The Casual Labor Custodian is responsible for assisting full-time, part-time, and temporary staff with the cleaning, maintenance, set-up, and tear-down for event and non-event related activity in the Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul RiverCentre, and Roy Wilkins auditorium.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions Sweep and mop floors. Clean carpets with vacuums and carpet-cleaning equipment. Wash windows and doors, empty trash and operate compactors. Separate all waste (compost/comingle/mixed paper/construction waste/trash) and empty it into the proper receptacle. Clean restrooms, scrub toilets and urinals, mop floors, empty trash and restock supplies. Clean offices, studios, skyways, and hallways. Assist in outside maintenance, shovel snow, pull weeds, pressure wash sidewalks, etc. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and other equipment according to printed diagrams and verbal instructions. Set up and tear down chairs in the arena before and after shows. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification At least 18 years old Knowledge & Experience Ability to understand spoken and written directions. General facility cleaning needs and procedures. Work in a team-oriented environment with other part-time, full-time, and temporary staff. Cleaning equipment operation preferred. General building maintenance preferred. Tools, materials, and supplies commonly used in building cleaning and maintenance are a plus. Experience in cleaning, maintenance, and set-up/tear-down in a convention center/hotel environment a plus. Personal Attributes Communicate effectively with coworkers and building clients. Assist and communicate tactfully with the general public. Work on a crew in challenging/pressure situations. Work Conditions Work hours are based on the event schedule. Ability to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Work long hours with limited supervision. Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing up and down stairs, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc. Spending most, if not all, of a work shift on your feet (4 - 6 hours) Lifting requirements - up to 50 pounds. Work outdoors as needed year-round.
